Spring Inspired Destination Elopement at Grecotel Cape Sounio in Athens Riviera
If you’ve ever dreamed of saying “I do” in a place where ancient history meets breathtaking natural beauty, then this Destination Elopement at Grecotel Sounio might just be your sign.

This spring-inspired editorial shoot reimagines what an intimate elopement in Greece looks like. Designed for couples who crave an experience that’s both elevated and effortless, it blends modern aesthetics with soft, romantic touches, all while staying deeply connected to its natural surroundings.

Before the Big Moment: Bridal Getting Ready in Style
Nestled along the iconic Athens Riviera, Grecotel Cape Sounio is the kind of place that doesn’t just look romantic, but it also feels magical. With uninterrupted views of the legendary Sounio Temple of Poseidon and the sparkling Aegean Sea, this luxury beachfront resort is like stepping into a modern Greek myth. But with all the comforts and style of a five-star escape.

Our bride was getting ready in the Grecotel’s villa with a private pool surrounded by serene nature. The villa is the perfect hideaway for hosting a private getting-ready pool party with a surprise photoshoot.

The bride wore a custom-made sheer bridal getting-ready gown, ethically designed and created by Alexia Kirmitsi with oversized lace florals and sleeves. The dress displayed minimalism and seductive fine art.

Destination Elopement First Look at Grecotel
After the getting-ready photoshoot season, the groom was patiently waiting for the bride and surprised her with a first look and ring reveal!

As they walked through the resort towards their private beach ceremony, every special moment was captured.

A Ceremony Designed to Welcome Spring in a Private Luxury Cove
Set right on the private beach of the resort, with the world-renowned ancient temple in the background and the scent of salt in the air, the ceremony space created by Broderie Anglaise Events was nothing short of divine. The floral altar, an airy pastel dream, floated like a cloud over the sand. With blooms in soft peach, ivory, lilac, and powder blue tones, the arrangement featured roses, hydrangeas, craspedia, chrysanthemums, and baby’s breath, accented with white peacock feathers and asparagus fern. It was whimsical, romantic, and completely one-of-a-kind.

This wasn’t your typical wedding arch. The half-circular arch was designed to “hug” the couple as they exchanged their vows. The low and circular design was a beautiful backdrop, allowing the view of the sea to take the centre stage.

The Wedding Look: Ethereal Meets Editorial
The bride wore a feather-light gown by Crochelle, perfectly in tune with the dreamy, ocean-kissed vibe. Her bouquet, a delicate mix of peonies and astilbe, echoed the florals from the ceremony and brought a sense of harmony to the whole look. The groom’s modern-yet-relaxed style added a touch of timeless cool, making the couple look like they belonged on the pages of a high-fashion editorial.

But this elopement wasn’t just about the aesthetics, it was about connection. Photographer Effie Grigoriou captured every intimate moment: the shared laughter, soft smiles, and deep-in-love glances that define a wedding day.
Destination Elopement at Grecotel Sounio: Dining with a View and Style
For their reception, the couple wandered through the resort’s lush gardens to a quiet, sun-soaked terrace overlooking the cape. There, a modern tablescape took center stage: a 1966 Warren Platner Knoll table anchored the setup, surrounded by soft, feather-inspired decor and translucent acrylic details. The stationery and glassware were fun, minimal, and ultra-stylish. Proof that even an elopement can deliver serious design goals. And yes, there was champagne.

Couples Portraits: Sunset at the Temple of Poseidon
No elopement at Cape Sounio would be complete without a sunset stroll at the Temple of Poseidon. Standing among ancient ruins with panoramic views of the Aegean Sea? That’s not just a wedding photo backdrop, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment. The temple’s energy is palpable, and its history only adds to the meaningfulness of the day.

Thinking of Your Own Destination Elopement at Grecotel Sounio?
Here are our quick tips for planning your own elopement in this jaw-dropping location:
- Go off-season for soft light and fewer crowds. Spring and early fall are ideal for capturing those dreamy golden hour photos without the peak summer heat.
- Work with local vendors who know the area. Greece has a thriving wedding industry. Hiring a team that’s familiar with the region will help you get the most authentic, stress-free experience.
- Make time for portraits at the temple. While you’ll need a permit for formal photos at the Temple of Poseidon, it’s 100% worth the effort. This is a backdrop unlike any other.
- Keep it simple but meaningful. An elopement is all about you two. Choose elements that reflect your style, your story, and your dream adventure.
Whether you’re planning a secret getaway or a chic micro-wedding abroad, a Destination Elopement at Grecotel Sounio is proof that you don’t need a big crowd to have a big moment.
