3 tips to keep your flowers fresh
Did you ever notice that when you step into the room with a bouquet of fresh flowers, you immediately felt better or happier?
Well, we believe that flowers can infuse us with good energy that makes us feel better. Even if this is just a small bouquet of fresh flowers in the room, changes the energy in the house. Therefore, every household or event should have some fresh flowers decorating the space.
Rules of Feng Shui even dictate that while you should always have live flowers in your home for strong healing energy, be sure never to have dry or dying flowers to reverse that good energy.
While different flowers have different life expectancy they usually should last longer than couple of days if they are fresh. Keep in mind that most flowers travel enormous distances to reach you. Thus, take care to get flowers that weren’t sitting in the store for days. They should keep in your house for about 5-10 days.
If you are preparing a small party or even a DIY wedding, you want your flowers to be as fresh looking as possible. Let’s see some tips in keeping them fresh for your big day.
-
Cool room will help your flowers last longer
If you buy the flowers a day or few days before your event, make sure to keep them in a cool or air-conditioned room or in the refrigerator if possible. Don’t freeze them. Just keep them in a nice cool temperature. You also do not want to shock them, so make sure that the temp difference is not too big.
-
Adding natural preservatives in the water
Soil provides many nutrients and minerals to flowers to grow. While we don’t necessarily need our flowers to grow, we do want to preserve them for longer. One well known preservative is aspirin with sugar and also some bleach to purify the water and kill bacteria. Use bleach with caution and only few drops in a liter of water.
Many bouquets from a store, already come with their own powder mix which you only add to your water for preserving your flowers.

Cut the stems and preserve your flowers for few days
We advise that you cut the end of the stems as soon as you get your flowers. Freshly cut stems will allow them to get more water which will make them look fresh and not withered. Before using them in your arrangements, cut the stems again.
If you just want a pretty bouquet in your house, keep cutting the stems as soon as the flowers wither. Sooner or later, some of the flowers will start to lose their petals. Simply remove them and use them as part of the decoration. Happy decorating!
