Vlada and George got married on the 15/05/20 in Athens Greece in the midst of the pandemic! It was simple but the love for each other is what truly matters!
Are you Getting Married? This real #coronabride tells us her story!
We met Vlada a couple of years ago, when she was the model for our 3rd cover of Ellwed magazine. And when we found out she is actually getting married, and in the middle of the pandemic no less, we just had to have her story!
So what happens when love cannot be cancelled, but the celebration can be postponed?
This is how Vlada and George decided to that no matter what they will still be getting married despite the pandemic!
We met each other 8 years ago, I was on my way home, and George was going to his work when he stopped me on the street and we started talking. It feels like faith brought us together and next day we arranged a coffee with our friends and from that day we are together all these years.
We both live in Greece, and for about 5 years now we are living together. So in December 2019, George surprised me with a proposal. However first months we were not thinking when we will be getting married or how and where we will celebrate our wedding.
Things got complicated when corona virus came to Italy and the whole world was on lockdown. That is how we made a decision not to celebrate our wedding in 2020, nevertheless we wanted to get married. So we decided to tie the knot in the local town hall this year. And next year, we will organize a celebration and we also want to get married in a church.
We arranged our wedding in the town hall at the 1st of April. But 2 weeks before, the quarantine ruined our plans, so we contacted the town hall to ask what we can do, and they offered us to reschedule the date because we couldn’t invite anyone, even our best man and my maid of honour. So we rearranged to tie the knot on the 15th of May, sadly without any friends or family. It was just the two of us and our witnesses, or best man and my maid of honour. Not even a photographer! Definitely it was not my dream wedding, but who cares! Next year I hope we will celebrate like the old times and have the wedding we always wanted.
“I am staying hopeful and looking forward to that day!”
After the wedding at the town hall, we changed our clothes and we wanted to go to the beach. Unfortunately everything was closed! That is why we decided to do it the Greek way! Celebrate no matter what! So we got a souvlaki a couple of beers and just chilled on a coast. What more could we ask for? What matters is that we have each other and beautiful views of the sea to make it more romantic! We didn’t have much choice to do anything else, as we are still afraid to invite our friends at home, due to coronavirus.
I truly hope that by next summer things will get better and that the pandemic will end. Then we can arrange our wedding in the church, with all our friends and relatives, followed by an amazing dinner and party till sunrise! I am staying hopeful and looking forward to that day! This gave me a chance to plan my wedding twice! How exciting is that?

The presence of Coronavirus in our lives is changing the way we work, live, shop, travel. And also the way we are getting married or partying!
One trend we will be seeing all over the world is live streaming for your wedding!
Live streaming is nothing new. In cast, some couples have been using this many years ago. Even one of your favorite series, “The Big Bang Theory”, featured live streaming elopement of Pennies and Leonard’s wedding!
So how can you incorporate a live stream to your destination wedding in Greece?
One way is to get the best possible professionals for the job. They will make sure you get the best possible coverage.
We asked Anthony Venitis from Beyond Vision Wedding Films, the leading tech video provider from Greece to explain more about live streaming for your wedding!
Anthony is a high-end video creator for destination weddings and elopements. He received multiple awards by Inspiration Photographers and was nominated by Way Up North as Europe’s Best Wedding Videographer in 2019. As the winner at film festivals for best cinematography and editing, one of his wedding films was honoured with a full week screening at the Laemmle Theatre in Hollywood, LA in summer 2019. Besides wedding cinematography, Anthony has captured events and created content for famous CEOs, athletes and other high-profile celebrities. Over the last years, his award-winning work has been featured in Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Junebug Weddings, Wedding Chicks, 100 Layer Cake and more. Anthony is a passionate international videographer focused on storytelling!
Are you thinking of incorporating Technology at your wedding?
Let’s see how you can include Live Streaming at Your Wedding
Anthony, how come you decided to incorporate Live Streaming for your couple’s weddings?
As we all know, at the moment the way weddings are being held is changing. Although we all hope this situation will be temporary. However, live streaming at a wedding is nothing new. As I want to provide only the best service to my couples, I’ve been using Live Streaming for the past few years now. Especially for couples that decide to elope. We want to provide the opportunity to their close family and friends to experience the moment remotely with them. On top of that, many couples request live streaming, on the occasion where a close family member is not able to travel to attend their wedding.
The coronavirus situation has affected our lives and consequently weddings or events as well. I believe that in 2020 the destination weddings tend to be smaller with a small number of guests. So, live streaming is becoming one of my most popular services of my wedding cinematography packages. When I offer the live streaming services to my couples, they do not miss the opportunity to take it. Why not be able to virtually have all your guests together and enjoy the day together with you?
So true! It is amazing to hear that you are well prepared and had lots of practice from even before the crisis! Can you tell us a bit more in details and without being too technical, how does this work?
The first step is to ask for this particular service, the rest is up to the cinematography team. There’s a lot that goes into live streaming at your wedding. Specifically the special equipment and the certain conditions that need to be met for the best possible outcome. The cinematography team should organise everything needed, so you don’t have to worry. Especially the coordination of the live streaming event with your wedding planner and the venue. Leave everything to the professionals and simply enjoy your day.
Your “remote” guests will be able to see and hear you get married from anywhere in the world! Our cinematography and drone professionals are responsible to shoot your wedding. We also work closely with our assistant operators, who are responsible for the technical parts such as audio and microphones, to connect to the DJ console and the stream itself. At the end, we can also provide you with the recorded live-stream video which you can watch later, in combination with your wedding film.
Wow really? That must be very special for couples to be able to have the recording as well! But, can you tell us what kind of team is required for someone to use live streaming? Should they think of hiring a pro or can they DIY it?
Live streaming is not as simple as pressing a button and letting the camera roll. Yes, you could potentially do a simple FaceTime call or even a Facebook live with your friends. However, to achieve a quality live stream video that will match with your big event, you need a professional team with experience and proper equipment.
Let me ask you this. Would you like to be able to show your wedding day through a multi-camera set-up with multiple angles and even a drone? Would you like to have professional audio to stream your vows, the officiant, and even your toasts at your live-stream? If your answer was yes, then I suggest assigning a proper professional team. They will set it all up and ensure that all runs smoothly. Your wedding cinematography team usually consists of two or more cinematographers and a drone operator. Besides that, two more assistant operators are required, to ensure that everything runs smoothly. From the set-up of the cameras, audio, and the live feed. All needs to fit together like a puzzle
Absolutely! I guess it all depends on the type of wedding the couple wants. Also if they have opted for the elopement with the live streaming of their wedding, then they should definitely consider to hire a professional team for the remote guests to enjoy the ceremony! So, what else is required for live streaming and how do the people at home see it?
When you choose the live stream service, discuss with your cinematographer which parts of the wedding day are going to be covered. Apart from that, there are a few options on how people will be able to access and see the live stream from home, either on their desktop, mobile, tablet, and even their TV. With our professional equipment and experience, we can live-stream simultaneously to multiple streaming services at no extra cost. The most common and easiest platforms for your remote guests are YouTube and Facebook.
We will provide you with private keys and links to distribute to your guests. You just send them an electronic invitation with the date and time, and they will be able to watch your wedding remotely at no cost for them and no setup time. They just use the link, and then they enjoy your wedding in high video and audio quality, from several camera and drone angles together with you. The person in charge of the live stream makes sure when to switch camera angles, which microphone is muted and can even play music or your reception music. He is also in charge of the technical support, in case any of your remote guests have a streaming problem.
Oh my goodness! That sounds amazing! Like watching a movie or a live coverage of some event, such as “Eurovision” for instance! This must be a wonderful experience for the remote guests and the couple, who can enjoy the reruns later on! I assume a good WiFi is required for Live Streaming. But what happens if the chosen venue cannot provide a good WiFi or if the wedding ceremony is happening on the beach or in nature? Is such technology then still possible?
Yes it is! A good Wi-Fi is essential for a quality live-stream. But how about when guests start to arrive at the venue and use the venue’s Wi-Fi? The bandwidth can easily get overloaded, therefore we have a backup 4G service for this reason. Which is sometimes actually faster than the venue’s Wi-Fi.
A faster connection of course means more stable and a better quality live streaming for your wedding. Having our own 4G/5G routers means that we can live-stream even to remote locations, during a beach ceremony for example, without having to rely on a local Wi-Fi connection. A few couples ask about 5G. It is coming to Greece, we expect it to be fully functional early-mid 2021, but keep in mind that a good 4G signal is already sufficient for a quality stream! Especially if you have a professional team managing your live streaming event. Make sure they knows what they are doing and had some experience before!
And for the last question, how many guests can see the live streaming video at their home?
When you live-stream your wedding, you can invite as many friends and family you want, from anywhere in the world, without any additional cost to you or them. This is a way to expand your guest list. This is also a way to bring your wedding to your dearest relatives or friends who cannot join you at your destination wedding for any reason! And not only in these difficult times.
We simply love what technology can do these days and hope to always be able to offer the latest and best quality to all our couples.
Yes, that is so true! Many relatives or friends cannot attend weddings or destination weddings for different reasons, such as pregnancy, health condition or other personal reasons. And the latest technology is absolutely astonishing and the way it is bringing us closer together! Ahhh! Now I wish I would have opted for Live Streaming of my destination wedding, where most of my relatives could not have attended! Thank you so much for taking the time to answer the questions for our exclusive interview.
It was really insightful and hopefully we have answered some questions for our couples who wanted to choose Live streaming for their wedding in Greece. I also hope to talk more about wedding cinematography on our podcast so all couples can get to know you better!

What will happen after Greece starts with the second stage of the prevention plan?
Are you anxious about your upcoming wedding in Greece? Here are some of the latest news from the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis yesterday’s speech on the plan to gradually lift the restrictive measures.
“Restrictions on the movement of citizens will be lifted.
However, traffic restrictions outside our prefecture will stay in place for at least two more weeks. – until 18th of May
Individual physical exercise will be allowed in open areas and near the sea. But organised beaches will remain closed.
Some types of stores and services will open on the same day. Here are some indicative examples: bookstores, electrical appliances stores, Roadworthiness Test Centres and sport stores. Also, hair salons, but always by appointment.
From May 4, the churches will be open for individual worship. And from Sunday, May 17, the faithful will be able to attend mass and other services.
The rest of the retail sector will open on Monday, May 11,
Education, classes of the third grade of the upper secondary education will resume on May 11. One week later, other High School classes will follow.
Primary schools and kindergartens will remain closed. I repeat that they may open on June 1, and only under the condition that we are absolutely sure that the course of the epidemic is going downhill.
On June 1,
Shopping malls open on June 1. In all stores, of course, specific measures will apply to limit the density of visitors. Strict measures will be taken to protect employees.
Catering sector activity will resume, under the conditions, which will have been agreed upon by then.
On the same day year-round hotels will open.
Finally, in June and depending on the developments, all pending economic activities will be gradually released.
However, it is unlikely that big gatherings, such as festivals, concerts or sporting events with spectators, will be allowed during the summer. It has now become clear that the programme for the next phase is fully deliberated. The programme will be put in place gradually per week and evaluated every 24 hours by a joint Government Observatory on Health and Civil Protection Services.” Says the Prime Minister.
Your upcoming wedding
It is still wise to avoid human contact and practice social distancing. If you will be meeting with your wedding vendors, do so with an appropriate distance.
While all these are good news, this second stage of the prevention plan of course depends on the future development and outcome. This means that the second stage of the prevention plan is subject to adjustments as situation progresses. This means, THINGS CAN CHANGE AT ANY MOMENT!
That is to say, so far Greece is progressing well at this moment, however if you are having a destination wedding in Greece this summer, it is safer to start looking into postponing it to 2021 if you haven’t already!
“Upon decision of the Greek Government, restrictions to travel to and from: Albania, Italy, North Macedonia, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany (apart from flights from Germany to Athens “Eleftherios Venizelos” International Airport), are in effect.
In addition, from 18.3.2020 and up to 23.00, 15.5.2020, citizens of non-EU countries may not enter Greece
Upon instructions of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, Greek and EU citizens may enter the country but a 14-day quarantine starting from the moment of entry to the country applies.”
As each country is dealing with this pandemic differently, before you make any final decisions, make sure to find out the latest news about restrictions and travel from all countries you are planning to go to.
Again, no one can know what will happen by the end of the year, but one thing is for sure. Until a safe cure is found, things will never be the same again for us all. Therefore, if we all step together, we can prevent the spreading and protect our loved ones, so please follow the rules of hygiene!
Greece is doing well, however
It is no secret that Greece is doing very well in these times while keeping the number of infections low “Today, we can safely say that the measures undertaken have proved successful. Data cannot be disputed: for days now, new cases have been kept to a minimum. However, the most important fact is the steady decline in Coronavirus patients in hospitals, as well as the decline in the number of our fellow citizens who are intubated in the Intensive Care Units.” Says Kyriakos Mitsotakis
Personally, I must say that I am very impressed and proud of the Greek nation and the quick organizational skills implemented in handling this crisis on the national level! Greece acted very fast with strict rules with the first few hundred cases! Beyond this, I am very proud there was no food hording and that the supermarkets never ran our of food. I am really happy that people are reacting rationally and not panicking. However, I will say it again we all need to consider that THIS IS NOT OVER with the lifted restrictions.
The virus is still among us and the chances of infection is still high! Even with the restrictions lifted, please be responsible and cautious! Follow the rules of hygiene.
“As we said, we return, but we remain careful. Above all, We Remain Safe.
In these days when the masks are in shortage and the prices are skyrocketing, making your own fun and easy no sew one use face masks, is one solution you can do yourself to help out!
These fun and easy no sew one use face masks are one effective and inexpensive way to keep you and everyone around you safer. And what is more, you can make your own one use masks with different colours and patterns anytime as long as you have some napkins and some string in the house!
Remember that these napkin face masks are simply tissue paper, which is not medical grade or sterilised! However this particular masks are good for maybe up to 2 hours use when you need to quick supermarket run or just a walk outside!
You can of course use any other materials such as paper filters or fabrics to do your own masks! And let’s leave the medical grade face masks for doctors, nurses, first line health responders and workers who need them more!
DO MASKS ACTUALLY WORK?
Yes and no! It depends on the quality of your mask and your situation. IF you are sick or think you might be a carrier, you should definitely use the mask at all times when going out or interacting with people!
Surgical masks can help contain the spreading of the virus if you are a carrier and can also help protecting you from airborne diseases such as coronavirus if they are made from proper materials! A simple paper tissue mask will not give you the same protection as the surgical or tickly woven cotton mask. One way to test material is to blow through it. If the air passes through, the masks are more or less useless. Oppositely, if the air does not pass through the masks will work, however, maybe not 100%!
Coronavirus mainly transmits with fluids which we ingest. Now, these could be tiny amounts we don’t even see or notice with our bare eyes! If we touch our eyes, face, mouth or nose with infected hands, we will most probably get the virus. The same goes if we are in the vicinity of an infected person who is sneezing or simply talking! Here is where the masks come in handy. Because our face is mainly protected, this helps minimizing the chance of infections. You should not wear one-use mask for more than 3 or 5 hours and definitely dispose them properly and carefully with disinfecting your hands afterwards.
Remember that these tissue paper one use face masks are simply a bit better protection than not having anything. However, by wearing any mask, does not mean you are fully protected from getting the virus. Nevertheless, you should always wear one if you are coughing or sneezing.
WHY YOU SHOULD MAKE YOUR OWN FUN AND EASY NO SEW ONE USE FACE MASKS?
Help the environment
Because these one use face masks are made from simple tissue paper, they will have less impact on the environment after you dispose them.
Help the society
By making your own face masks you are not taking the limited amount of surgical face mask from the healthcare workers and the people who need it the most! Do your part and contribute to the society in any way you can!
Save on money
As you might have noticed, the prices of the masks are rising! If there is no need to buy your special masks, save your money and make your own stylish ones!
Protect yourself and others
As we said before by wearing any kind of mask, you will benefit from some protection against the virus. If you are sneezing or coughing, you should always wear the one!
Help to lower the curve and to contain the spreading of Covid-19
You might have the virus and not know it! Don’t risk spreading it around and giving it to all people at your supermarket or on the road. Wear the mask and safely dispose it immediately after!
And by wearing the one, you will help to lower the cure and hopefully eliminate the virus! However, the best way is to stay home with minimal interactions!
For your guests
Think of making your own face masks for the guests at your upcoming wedding. As we always say, after the restrictions are lifted that does not mean the virus is gone! By travelling and interaction with people there are more chances of getting the virus and also spreading it to others. If your wedding is happening in the time of this pandemic and you are thinking of having some guests, make sure you protect them and yourself! Offer them face masks and this is one of the fun ways you can be creative while making a difference.
Fun tip: Eventually you could order your own special uniquely printed napkins with fun taglines and your wedding logo. You can then use them for creating these fun and easy no sew one use face masks for your guests and also on your wedding day!
FOR THESE FUN AND EASY NO SEW ONE USE FACE MASKS YOU WILL NEED:
Fun, colourful tissues or napkins of your choice. Preferably thicker or better quality ones.
Scissors, preferably small pair
String or ribbon or simply rubber bands
Optional, hole puncher or a tool for making a small hole
HOW TO MAKE YOUR fun and easy no sew one use face masks:
Fold the tissue like a harmonica or the Z fold and press it with your hands. If your tissue is rectangular, then hold it on the long side and fold the shorter sides. Different sized napkins will make bigger or smaller face masks.
Hold the tissues at the folded edge and make a hole with your small pointy scissors or some other tool you have. BE CAREFUL here not to hurt your fingers or yourself while doing that!
Repeat the hole making process on the other side as well
Prepare your strings. Measure approximately the length of the string you need from your ear to your mouth and make the loop or double that length. Remember, it is better to make it a bit longer than too short. If you have the rubber bands, it will be easier to use as you don’t need to measure anything.
When you have the holes or the openings ready, you can insert the string or the rubber bands.
Using the string: Simply pass one end of the string through the hole at one edge of the folded tissue. When passed through, pull it till the middle to make sure that both ends are same length creating a loop. Then make a simple or half knot all the way down, to secure the string at the folded edges of the napkin. Then take the two ends of the string and make another knot, the overhead knot, with both ends of the string.
Using the rubber bands: Fold one rubber band on half and push one end though the hole on the edge of the folded tissue. You might need to use a tool to help guide the band through the opening if those are small. A toothpick will do! Again, be careful when pushing a point tool through the hole, as it can slip and hurt your fingers. After you have managed to push the folded rubber band through the hole on the folds of the tissue, pass one end of the rubber band under the other loop and pull. That will tie the rubber band to the napkin. Your rubber band should now be attached to the folded napkin at one end and the other should have one bigger loop which will go around your ear.
After you have done this for the both ends, take the folded napkin and carefully stretch it out from one side. Now try it on your mouth and around your ears. If the strings are too loose, you can simply make another knot at the end. If they are too small, cut it off and use a longer string. The rubber bands should easily stretch around your ears without any problems.
CONGRATULATIONS! You just created your own FUN AND EASY NO SEW ONE USE FACE MASKS. These fancy masks will protect you from immediate exposure which will contribute to minimizing the spreading of the virus and with that you just contributed to society!
At the end you can use any fabric with the same technique and sew the corners if you would like a mask that is better made, more durable and maybe even washable! Make a research on the best materials to use for better protection. Nonetheless, thicker cotton will also work best!
Wear your fancy face masks, offer them to your family, friends and guests at your future wedding! Protect yourself and others.

These are some unprecedented times and this pandemic is affecting wedding suppliers the most!
One thing is for sure, we will probably never going to get the chance to slow down like this again! Therefore, use this time wisely! Surely for some it has been tough having to work hard through this pandemic. However, for most wedding suppliers, who got to stay at home and send time with their family this is the time to cherish for ever!
So, while working from home, and not having to run from meeting to meeting, use this time to focus on your brand and your couples!
RESPECT THE SITUATION
Respect the situation your couples are in. Try to find a common ground to solve the issues that arose because of this pandemic. If you can afford it, think of helping the affected couples in any way you can. Donate your time, your services, your expertise or even financial help. Keep the lines of conversation with your couples open.
DON’T STOP GROWING
Invest in your brand! This is the time to focus on your branding and get marketing investments in place! If you need to boost your sales, get to networking events and invest into growth! The new way of education and growth is now! Improvement is needed at any stage, and now is your time to invest in your business growth! At this point, attending conferences, workshops and educational programs is a must!
QUOTES FROM SELECTED WEDDING SUPPLIERS
In an interview with Bridelux, award winning luxury cake maker Elizabeth of Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium said: “Symposiums have gone from “nice-to-have”, to a “must-have”! Because we need to recover and wedding shows and conferences are one way for us to get great advice, meet like-minded people network and be seen. Self-development is absolutely needed to take our businesses to a next level. Studies have shown from 2008 when the crash happened, the companies that continued to invest in their people and self-development came out of the recession much quicker. They survived compared to the companies that didn’t, because they continued to market and develop.”
Fashion and wedding photographer George Stratigis says: “For me it is worth it as a goal to have strong collaborations. Inspiration is the motivation, we don’t want to “loose”. We need to create a new visual language. After all this we will have a new order. We share an intellectual chemistry and we need to move higher above on a personal aesthetic invention. We lead a new artistic movement/collective that grows on the border of wedding and fashion imagery. And we do it for us.”
MARKETING IS A MUST
Social proof is always needed for all professionals! And even more so now when this pandemic is affecting all wedding suppliers. So focus on your marketing, update your website with fresh images and start getting those submissions and all your press features in order! Don’t cancel your promotions which might set you back or even to recession. Reach out to blogs and magazines like Ellwed to get your work featured! Be productive and creative! Plan for the next styled shoot. Make sure you know what is the purpose of this styled shoot and how you will use it afterwards. You can also join group styled shoots like our portfolio building retreat to get the high quality images which will get you one step closer to the feature!
UPGRADE YOUR ACCOUNTS
Update and grow your social media channels. If you may have noticed, some companies like Facebook and Instagram have already introduced new features and renewed some components. Yes, this pandemic is affecting wedding suppliers the most, however some have already redesigned their sites and added new projects! You should do something too and not stay behind! Even if it is only a small change as new blog post.
Think positive and use this downtime to start a new project or finish your old one, which will bring you the extra income you might need. What is that one thing you were always dreaming of doing but never had the time to do? Take action now and grow!
Greek/Canadian Photographer Kimon Kaketsis used this time to create a new project Alone Together! “Our imposed confinement has forced us to cancel or postpone events and celebrations. However we are witnessing our relationships strengthen as the pandemic has been an opportunity for people to connect virtually in a more meaningful way. Our very concept of connection is being re-examined as we isolate and socialize in new ways. In order to stay inspired and engaged within our new constrained lives, I hope to create a new series of images that capture moments of love through an unlikely lens by using ‘screenshots’ as a medium.
This image “session” will have the couple invite the photographer into their home with a video chat. In that way we can create moments that will not only highlight the relationship between them, but also between the couple and photographer.”
AND FINALLY, GET READY
Get your business ready for the possible increase of inquiries and events after this period will pass. Be prepared to offer valuable knowledge about the new age events your couples will be asking for. The couples might reassess their values and what is more important to them. The weddings might become more intimate or more family orientated, others might get even bigger celebrations. Therefore you need to be ready to address the issues such as Eco-conscious choice, sourcing local suppliers and products, of no wastage, flower recycling and more attention to hygiene. It is vital for you as a pro to educate yourself and arm yourself with all the information. You will have to educate your clients how the market has changed, what is possible for their case and why some prices might have increased. Remember, it is your responsibility as a professional to guide and educate your clients.
Now, get back to business!
If you have a quote for us, or a project to share, feel free to get in touch with your ideas and we might feature them too!
Find out how to plan for your wedding after the restrictions are lifted, bearing in mind that the Covid-19 will most probably be present for some time
You still have to bear in mind that the virus will most probably be among us for some time. Maybe even some years. We are of course all hoping for the cure, but in the meantime, keep in mind to prevent the spreading on daily basis and within your event! Let’s follow the rules to contain and minimize the number of transmissions and maybe even eliminating the virus this way.
These are difficult and uncertain times and no one really knows how this will evolve. However we are all in this together and that is why we need to take it step by step. So check out these tips we prepared on how to make your event as safe as possible, when the time comes to celebrate again!
We will come out of this crisis and weddings will still be happening! So, what can you do to plan your wedding after the restrictions are lifted?
HAVE MOST OF THE WEDDING OUTDOORS
Greece is actually the perfect country for this! Many destination weddings here are already happening outdoors anyways. And now, with the low number of cases, hot summers and gorgeous seaside venues, Greece has everything you need for your destination wedding. One good preventative technique against the spreading of Covid-19 is not to have many people in closed spaces. That is why most countries acted on postponing events and have limited the number of people allowed in the supermarkets at once. So apply this rule to your wedding to event as well!
CONSIDER TO SPACE OUT
If you have ever eaten in the Greek taverna, you probably noticed the tightly squeezed table seating. Well this will now have to change! Consider having more space between the seats at your event and especially the seated dinner. Space your guests further apart during the dinner and the ceremony as well! Consider the 2 meter rule. Yes, your wedding look will be more airy than usual, but health and safety are priority at the time of Covid-19! So, have fun with it, work with your planner to incorporate it in your design!
RE-THINK YOUR MEAL AND FOOD STATIONS
Work with your catering and opt for plated meals instead of buffet. Avoid sharing platters and avoid common dishes to minimise possible contamination. All other snacks or consumables should be sealed under hygienic conditions. Rethink your desert tables and food stations where many people take their own food. Consider wrapped candy or offer sweets in the sealed jars.
INTRODUCE SANITIZING STATIONS
Start the hygiene trend and add hand sanitisers where ever you can at your wedding, after the restrictions are lifted. Consider the designated and decorated or fun hand sanitising stations around the venue. Don’t stop there, go crazy! In the baskets near the toilets, sports around the venue and maybe even on the tables. Decorate them in the style of your wedding and add fun catchy phrases!
PREPARE YOUR VENUE
Ask your venue about additional sanitary, health and safety requirements. Discuss about additional hand washing or sanitising stations around the venue and near the entrances. Ask about the cleanings schedule of the venue and try to negotiate additional cleaning options as disinfecting the door handles, faucets, bar or any other surfaces. This will help you ease your worry and give some reassurance to your guests.
THINK OF ELOPING
Think of a smaller wedding or even an elopement. Never before was it easier to elope without any drama, if this is what you always wanted! Everyone will understand you are worried for their safety. This is the time to reduce the guest list for your destination wedding if you wanted to have a smaller wedding and didn’t know how to tell your guests. Especially, in case you have elderly people flying over, it is best to have a separate party at home for all who are at greater risk.
TWO WEDDINGS ARE BETTER THAN ONE
You could maybe still get married now at the local registrar and have your destination wedding later on! Please check in your local town hall if this is possible. Like this, you can keep your dates if those are important to you and schedule another wedding in the future when the virus will be under control. Because two weddings are better than one. This is the opportunity to wear your wedding dress twice or even get a second one! This is the time to party twice and to prolong your wedding as much as you can.
Masks and gloves can be useful for protecting you while all the wedding procedures. Surely as the wedding couple, you two will have most interaction with all people so think ahead and protect yourselves. Best is of course to wash or disinfect the hands regularly as with gloves you can still touch your face and transfer potential viruses. However, it cannot hurt to wear them while you have to sign paperwork for instance. Although masks are best used on people who are sick, if you are not sure, offer the extra masks for your guest as well. Think of having customized masks made with your wedding logo or date and location as favours at your wedding, also after the restrictions are lifted. And as a bride, accessorized and stylish mask is certainly a must if you are planning to wear it. Think of his and hers!
QUOTE FROM A PRO ABOUT YOUR WEDDING AFTER THE RESTRICTIONS
Claire Salisbury of Lefkas Weddings is sharing with us Corona Virus day of wedding etiquette
Assuming air travel and social gatherings are allowed, I would suggest:
– Think vintage style and wear a pair of dress gloves to finish your outfit. Perfect for handshakes during the line-up and cocktail hour
We are all familiar with ‘Unplugged Wedding’ signs and Welcome signs. How about a polite social distancing sign to keep the humour light as: ‘Thank you for your wishes but we prefer no hugs and kisses’
Ensure your venue has hand sanitiser and hand wash available for guests
Don’t be afraid to ask your venue to make sure their waiting staff wear gloves
Ask guests to pay bar drinks with card and not cash.
“Mezedes” or starters and sharing are essence of Greek dining. However if you think people would prefer not to share food. Ask the venue to serve individual taster plates or buffet menu rather than a mezedes menu.
In any case be mindful of everyone situation. Your vendors will surely be working hard for your wedding also after the restrictions will be lifted. We know this situation is so difficult for all 2020 brides, however, keep in mind that is also difficult for your suppliers. If you feel that your vendors have supported you in this difficult time, make sure you help them with a nice review!
THINGS YOU CAN DO WHILE YOU WAIT!
Here are few tips to change your mindset and look at this as a “glass half full” situation!
Don’t think as a wedding lost, try to see it as a wedding gained! You now have the opportunity to rethink and re-plan your day to perfection. Is there some style or colour you wanted but was not sure about?
Focus on your relationship! This is the time to spend some real time with your future spouse! Strengthen your relationship and remember what is important! Take this time for yourself and grow stronger together! Enjoy these times and treat it like a pre-honeymoon at your home! Treat yourselves with breakfast in bed, order your cake, some flowers and practice with your mini romantic pre-honeymoon!
It is ok to be sad about your cancelled or postponed wedding however, find the positive aspects of your scenario. Try to see the glass half full, rather than half empty! Keep your routine going! Exercise, get fresh air and keep connected with your friends, family and the bridal community on socials, phone calls or video chats.
Use this time for research, even for your 2021 wedding and start sending inquiries as dates are filling up! Use this time and focus on your dream wedding planning, keep on going! Now is your time to cheer up your vendors and focus on your future wedding in 2021 or 22!! You don’t have to change your style of your wedding, but this is the chance to entertain new ideas and styles if your wedding changes the seasons. Take this time to really focus on your wedding without the rush of the everyday life!
Help out your vendors and your local businesses like your florist if you can. Order your bouquet online if you can, to freshen up your day! Or have your wedding cake delivered and eat it in bed! Keep in mind if any of your wedding suppliers are closed, they will start operating soon again! So before you make any changes, get in contact with your supplier and discuss your issues and if they can help you accommodate your wishes. At the end of all this, just realise what is important to you and focus on that! Your vendors are ready for you and your dream wedding!
TO SUM UP
If the whole world would work together and restrict from social interactions, in theory we could eliminate the virus. So let’s work together and stay home. Above all, it is so important to practice social distancing also after the restrictions are lifted, when you leave your house and especially before your wedding. This is what you can do to help diminish the impact of Covid-19!
This is the perfect time to plan your new century wedding!
Things will never be the same again and one thing is for sure, weddings will have to adapt to the new world direction!
Some of you had already have to postpone their wedding and others are still waiting to see what will be happening. Of course we don’t know what will happen in the future as the rules are changing and the situation varies in every country. However, get your plan B in place sooner rather than later and be prepared for anything. Get read for a new century wedding.
Firstly, make sure you can let people know about your new announcements as soon as possible. You can do this easily by sending messages through the email, postponement cards or make the update message on your wedding website. If you don’t have one, now is the chance to make one easily. On the other hand, simply use social media groups or group chats like Viber, Facebook or WhatsApp to reach all or most of your guests with any updates you might have. Your guests will appreciate to know what is happening as they need to arrange their travel and adjust plans as well.
Choose Multiple Dates
Make a list of the preferred dates and contact your planner to try to secure your preferred date with your chosen venue and the rest of the suppliers. Work closely with your planner and keep constant communication open with all suppliers. Contact your “non-negotiable” suppliers first and make sure they are preferred on your chosen date. Think of off-season dates where you can have more supplier availability and get creative with your new century wedding! If your wedding is on a smaller Greek island, please check if your venue and the vendors will be operating in the off-season this year.
Try to be flexible and see what is negotiable. Some suppliers like the photographer, videographer, planner, florist, etc. are probably more important than others to fulfil your vision. So focus first on those. Look at the bigger picture and be prepared to make sacrifices on some less important parts of your wedding. Your venue might be very important to you as well. Therefore, as a destination bride, think of different date within the week as the venues could be already booked on your chosen day. In general, be flexible wherever you can. Your preferred venue might not be available later in the year or even for the 2021. Take this time to research and choose an alternative one!
Open Direct Communication
Communicate with your guests at which stage you are at the moment. If you are postponing your date make sure to ask them if they can still join you at the new date. As you found the best date to accommodate all important aspects and guests for your current date, you can do the same now. You can also do this as a backup plan. Keep tight relations with your vendors over Zoom, Skype or FaceTime!
Insurance and Paperwork
Think of getting an insurance for your new event if you don’t have it already. Research all available options of coverage and get the policies that are right for you. Make sure that you read the fine print and only take legal and financial advice from appropriate and professional sources. On top of that, get in contact with the embassies and registrars from Greece about the paperwork that might have expired. Ask your vendors for more linear payment options and renewed policies
Style and Design
If your wedding was moved to another season and you think your styling will not fit within your new theme, you can still make few changes to adjust to your season. Think of accessorising your dress, or adjust your makeup and hairstyle to fit the season. Talk to your planner how to add more seasonal elements without changing too much if that is what you want. On the other hand, now is your chance to completely change the style of your wedding if you want! Find some new ideas on our Pinterest or Instagram
New Century Wedding
Think of postponing your wedding for your piece of mind or if you think you can go ahead with it, maybe cut down on the number of guests. This is a great time for you to reduce your guest list if you wanted to or switch to elopement style ceremony without feeling guilty. Think of elopement with virtual ceremony for all the guests who could not have joined. Now is the time for new trends and new ways of planning your new century wedding! The situation will be different for every wedding and every couple. In any case, have contingency plans in place and make sure you have clear communication with all your important suppliers and vendors. Remember, that your wedding is about the two of you!
Involve your ladies! Your bridal party and the closest family will be there for you, so share your troubles and give them tasks like research or inspiration and information gathering! Have a WhatsApp party or create a shared Pinterest board about your #coronawedding and pin all the gorgeous inspirations and useful blog advice from posts such as this one, which everyone can find on that board!
If you do not have a planner and you feel like you cannot solve your situation, consider hiring one or at least try to get consultation. Some planners are also offering free consultations and sharing their knowledge and helpful advice through the social media channels or different blogs.
Above all take care of yourself, your wellbeing, use your time productively and be grateful to what you currently have as opposed to not have. This is a global pandemic and is affecting everyone so everyone will understand the decisions you have to make, which are the right one for you!
Important updates on the Covid-19 pandemic in Greece and how to handle postponing your wedding.
You are probably sick of all the coronavirus talk and posts by now. But in this post, we are sharing with you only the important information about the situation in Greece that might affect your wedding plans!
Obviously many things have changes in this week after our previous post and you are probably either used to the quarantine by now or really sick of it!
Remember, there is still no need to panic!
The main thing to focus on at this moment is your health and wellbeing and the health of your family and guests. All the rest will come in place when the time is right.
Of course we are all hoping for the summer and late summer/autumn season to be ok, however things are changing daily, therefore make sure to have that plan B in place!
NEW ACTIONS IN GREECE
Greece has accepted some new firmer restrictions in order to save the summer season and to contain the spread of the virus.
In the next few weeks or even months, expect the unexpected. The whole world is on a lockdown, although we would never have expected this to happen! At the moment Greece is practising the curfew hours and movement is restricted to only for necessary tasks. All weddings, events and gatherings have been suspended and hotels are ordered to remain closed till end of April. As well as no external flights are allowed, with some exceptions.
Many companies work normally, some also from home and deliveries are possible! If you need any specific company or product make sure to check their announcement and feel free to get in touch over socials if necessary, and ask about their schedule affected by the coronavirus.
Greek authorities are urging the public not to travel within Greece to places and villages which can cause the virus to be transmitted to the rest of the population. That is to say that the traditional Greek Easter on 19th of April is also cancelled!
IS YOUR WEDDING OR EVENT AFFECTED?
You are probably asking if you should postpone your wedding or not. You would like to hold on to your date as long as possible but are not sure if you should postpone now or later? This is a question that only you can answer! Arm yourself with the facts and make your own decisions. It depends on many things.
First is to follow the news and see when the restrictions will be lifted. Secondly, has your country already experienced the peak? What is the size of your wedding and of course your wishes. Can everyone fly over to meet you in Greece even though you can? Are you willing to do some sacrifices if you do go ahead with your date?
Do you want the same wedding as you planned, the same venue, the same season and your selected vendors? Then best would be to postpone on the next year. However, keep in mind that this might be difficult to achieve as well.
Your country is most probably in the same situation by now as Greece. Some countries are experiencing their peek while others are just approaching it. It is important to know on which stage is your country in correlations to Greece if travel will be allowed for you or not. Nevertheless, we cannot know exactly if the summer season in Greece will be saved or not. Therefore, we urge all “early season” couples to act sooner rather than later. Postpone, don’t cancel if you don’t need to.
In our opinion, if your wedding is in late summer or autumn it is still too early to actually make any firm decisions on postponing. But do keep a close relationship with your planner or other vendors to schedule a plan B if the new development will show that there is a need to do so!
HOW TO DEAL WITH POSTPONING YOUR WEDDING
If you think you might have to postpone, we urge you to do it sooner rather than later, as the dates can get booked up. Couples getting married early summer might still get affected. As of now most May events have been already postponed while June is still unknown. Although some June couples are already in the process of doing so. Again, all this depends on your own situation. Nevertheless, be mindful of your guests as well. If you get any news about your countries situation of travel and social restrictions which might affect your dates, act fast and offer this information to your family and guests as soon as possible. They need some time to make informed decisions about attending your event.
Ask your vendors what is the latest deadline for your decisions about postponement or cancelation. Obviously we do not suggest you to cancel your wedding, however we know that this situation is different for everyone and for some postponement is just not possible!
Ask for contingency in case your supplier cannot provide what you need for your wedding. Some things such as flowers, fabrics, special food or other imports might get affected by the Covid-19 pandemic because of the late or impossible deliveries. Make sure to get all the agreements to the new decisions and possibilities.
Make a pros and cons list. Is getting married this year no matter what more important? Or is a wedding in the later date or next year with less sacrifices the experience you would prefer? Answering some of these kind of questions will help you make the right decision!
If you decide on postponing your wedding, get in touch with your planner and the vendors immediately. Discuss their terms and conditions and what will happen if you postpone or cancel the wedding. Now is the time for reading the small print, and get second opinions. Postponement and cancellations clauses are different for every vendor you are working with, however cancellation from your side, usually means loss of deposits.
If you have a bigger and more complicated wedding, you might be better off postponing your wedding to the next year. This will give you more room to organize all the aspects you were wanting to have at your wedding. You should consider to be flexible regarding the dates and the venues. Take this time to research all your secondary choices.
HOW YOU CAN HELP YOUR SUPPLIERS
In order to get the best possible new plan in place for your wedding, be mindful of your vendors. Think of how you can be helpful and support your vendors with all the postponements they need to handle.
Of course this time is difficult for everyone, as brides and the suppliers alike. Therefore the best idea is to work together on the new plans and possible payment options. Give constructive ideas and be more flexible so your suppliers can be there for you while postponing your wedding!
All your suppliers are aware of this situation and they are all trying to accommodate all of their clients. Think that giving away all the new dates in the new season means they cannot accommodate new clients in order to grow their business. Remember that this situation is probably causing no income for many months for some, where they still have their business to run. However again, this is not true for everyone. In any case, be mindful of each situation and try to understand everyone’s side.
Some of the suppliers have already put a lot of work in your wedding planning to date, therefore don’t think of the non-refundable deposits as money lost, rather than payment for the services they have provided you so fa. This is of course different for every supplier. Keep a constant contact with all your vendors regarding their cancellation policies and what this means for you.
We know this situation is so difficult for all 2020 couples, however, keep in mind that it is even more difficult for some of your suppliers. If you feel that your vendors have supported you in this difficult time and helped you in any way, make sure you help them with a nice review! Your reviews will also help then grow their business after the crisis.
Another great way to help your vendors or suppliers, is to send your wedding story to be featured to some blogs or magazines! You can do this if your wedding has already happened or after it will happen. We are sure that your #coronawedding story will be more than intriguing for all the publications! And this kind of promotion and good words from you are more valuable to your suppliers than any other advertisement.
This might not be your area, however wedding blogs make it super easy for you to do this. Keep in mind to ask permission from your photographer first. Then write down your wedding story. Remember all the beautiful moments and details about your wedding day. At the end make a list of all your suppliers and add their website links. You can submit your wedding which happened in Greece to Ellwed anytime! See more guidance on our Submission page.
Ellwed Award goes to this Pink and gold cheerful destination wedding.
The winner of best real wedding from 2019 captured by HannaMonika Photography and was submitted to Ellwed by Gamos Crete.
One of the best real weddings of past year, which was featured in Ellwed must have been this one! This happy brides simply seduced us with her charms.
We are giving our award for the best real wedding every year since the begging of Ellwed. And this year is no exception. The awarded weddings are announced in every Winter issue of Ellwed at the end of the year.
“Our planner Margreet Riemeijer was amazing. She was taking care of every single detail in our wedding planning process. Furthermore, she personally coordinated the entire day and in addition, made sure that we and all our guests had the best possible experience. From the moment Margreet agreed to be our wedding planner she started planning every detail. Things moved forward quickly, including all the things we had not even considered.
However, we decided on the location one year before our wedding, when we visited Crete. But leading up to the wedding day, we were only able to come to Crete a week before. Therefore, we needed to put all our trust in Gamos Crete Weddings. Above all, they coordinated everything with the two separate venues for the wedding ceremony and reception plus all the different vendors and local suppliers. To point out, we had a very international wedding and our guests came from all over the world.
Gamos Crete Weddings also come with many recommended vendors and suppliers they work with regularly and we fully endorse all the choices Margreet suggested for us. The gave us plenty of information in advance and examples of past weddings to help guide our choices. This helped us make the right decisions for our wedding. However, we always had the final decision and we did not feel pressured booking any recommendations.
Moreover, the wedding celebrant, Henk Bekker recommended by Gamos, spoke perfect English and Dutch. And we felt very lucky to have him and Margreet by our side for this big day. What is more, he took a lot of time to get to know us before our wedding. He spent a lot of time with us and our guests before the ceremony so it was a very personal experience for us and our families.
In the end our wedding was something straight from the movies! We and all of our guests were so happy. And very impressed from start to finish.”

Get inspired with our Love party theme for your own bridal party!
We are so excited to finally share with you all the moments and details of our first ever Ellwed Party!
Our year started with a BANG and we want to thank everyone who came to party with us and especially, everyone who made this possible!
This video was created by by George Startigis and Mariflor Zapatero
When we got the good news from Bridal Expo to organise an after show bridal party at their VIP hall, we were over the moon and couldn’t believe our ears!
What about this Neon Heart Arch by The Letter Co. for your wedding or party?
planning and the search for the perfect theme began immediately and thankfully
we had the right creative minds on board!
The idea was to combine elements of marriage, love and bridal fashion to create a fun yet glamorous experience for all brides, celebrities, influencers, designers and wedding professionals alike!
This was a huge project and we did it with flair and style!
First and foremost we would like to thank from the bottom of our hearts to all who joined the team and help us create this party!
We always say that the party is only as good as the entertainment! And our DJ George Kouzas, one of the top DJs in Athens made sure that we are all enjoying his beats which were keeping us all going till the early hours! But without the team of Mix Mix Sound and Light we would not have any party! They came and set up the whole construction, provided us with all the sound, lights and the structure for our fantastic #tunneloflove. This party was truly a team work at its finest and nothing was too difficult for them!
After the good news, we quickly started working to develop the concept. The idea for the whole party theme from head to toe was designed and styled by Anna-Jill of Kiss from Fleur while working closely with us and Bobbie from Sand and Lace Events to bring it all to life. We had to organise the whole thing from scratch in just few months while dealing with holiday and Christmas season. However, we felt so much creative energy that kept us going and whit the help of all amazing vendors who joined our team, we believe we managed to create the best party of the year! See the full list with links, at the end of this page.
Our Ellwed party was on first day of Bridal Expo, and after the Atelier Zolotas show at the Athens Bridal Fashion Week in the historic building of Zappeion and it went on throughout the night! While our DJ kept the spirits high, The Moving Spirits made sure the gorgeous and fun cocktails keep flowing. Decorated with customised printables by Party and Co, cotton candy, flowers, fruits and molecular gastronomy caviar made on the spot, these customized cocktails were the hit! Valia from Party and Co also created out love themed cocktail signs, all printables, such as party crew badges and wonderful unique gifts for all guests!
We were lucky to have found our wonderful hostesses or entertainers with flair and so much personality (you can see them almost on every photo). They made sure everyone gets to taste gorgeous love themed delicious cupcakes, strawberry meringue “kisses” and “kiss me” cakes all handmade specially for our party by wonderful Tonia from Buttermilk Patisserie. We are not exaggerating to say that these were some of the best quality cakes and sweets we have ever tasted! If you are getting married and need a quality, delicious and beautiful cake or sweets, then Buttermilk Patisserie are your best choice! Go for a trial and be the judge.
The whole idea came together because of the teamwork of top professionals who worked for months on making the vision come to light! The Letter Co created the doorway heart to our Tunnel of Love and all the signs of the party to keep it lit-up and shiny. And what an honour was to see our custom made Ellwed sign for the first time in hot pink neon! The Balloon Idea worked hard to do all our balloon constructions. They provided all the fun pink and silver shiny metal balloons that were incorporated with the enchanted silver party forest created by RedBoxDays Florals. Kostas, the head florist, made sure the trees were lush and shiny. Painted in mirror silver colours and lametta hanging decor, they were crucial part of the full image and the look of the party. Inside our tunnel of love, you could find iPhotoBooth, to strike a pose with props and take memorable printouts to cherish the moments. And for comfort, Loizos House Rentals provided us with tables and wedding rentals.
When Bobbie from Sand and Lace Events had the idea of a cover booth press wall, we immediately fell in love with it and just had to make it happen at all cost! We wanted this to be a fun experience for all. Everyone had so much fun posing inside this Cover Star Photo Boot, which made everyone feel like they are on the cover or Ellwed magazine. With Anna’s help, of Kiss from Fleur, we managed to make it glamorous with lots of silver shiny foil and all the lametta to have fun!
You should always think of an interactive element when designing your party!
At the End
We cannot forget the amazing team of Christina Vardali Photography who were on every corner to capture all the sides, moments and details of this party! And of course our fashion photographer and videographer George Stratigis with Mariflor, who covered all the catwalks and created this high fashion artistic video of our party to remember for ever!
All photos by Christina Vardali and her team.
Now, take a look at the full gallery with some more exciting moments from our party!
Oh wow, what an experience! Where do we even begin? A huge thanks to of course goes to Bridal Expo team and John Papadoliakos. Then to all the amazing vendors who joined us for this 3 day epic event in the heart of Zappion!
We will leave you with few more photos from George Strtigis!
